Because we are the Daughters of the Soil. We are the Daughters of Dharti. And, we're the daughters of a destiny we can demand, command and change.

ROOTS

This Dharti belongs to Dhasa, a village nestled in the interiors of Saurashtra, a vibrant and promising region in the State of Gujarat in India.

It is a land of rich soil, yielding a variety of spices and the home of hidden Arts and Crafts.

The women and girls of Dhasa are a multi-talented, hardworking and earnest lot who create and prepare products from this very realm, to profit, support and better their village ecosystem.

CORE

Their efforts are motivated by the desire and need to bring prosperity and progress to their community and surroundings.

When the women and girls of a region are encouraged to contribute to their communities and in doing so, earn their own livelihoods, a very true and complete advancement occurs.

At the core of it, Dharti aims to empower and uplift the women and girls that take heart in helping themselves and their homeland.

DHARTI - A PLACE AND A PLATFORM

Dharti endeavours to empower the women and girls of Dhasa by providing them with a platform and a marketplace where their creations and preparations may be bought to benefit their livelihoods and better their overall community.

the women
of dharti

The women of Dharti were born to this Dharti in Dhasa. They are rooted in its history, their own stories intertwined with those of the village, their everyday tasks driving the village economy bit by bit, their lives, choices and demeanour, in part and whole, carrying and preserving the ethos and values of the village.

meet shilpaben.

These are the sincere stories behind the sincere women behind Dharti. All straight from the heart, all true and all that made Dharti true.

The first to jump onto our brand bandwagon.

The first to wave the Dharti flag and take up the mantle to drive this idea forward. She is a single mother to two lovely boys, whom she hopes to educate way beyond she could herself. Amongst tailoring, parlour-ing and cooking, she contributes to Dharti with spices that complement tea and buttermilk.

Her 'chai masala' and 'chaas masala' have come to become Dharti favourites and are right up there on our product list!

And her enthusiasm makes her our favourite! We make no bones in saying so, because everyone on the team feels that way about her!

This Dharti couldn't do without you, Shilpaben.

Meet Payalben and Bhavnaben.

These are the sincere stories behind the sincere women behind Dharti. All straight from the heart, all true and all that made Dharti true.

Both women have been married into families belonging to this Dharti. Despite being promising students, they were made to abandon their education for a life dedicated to marriage, household chores and homemaking. On a brighter note, this made them supremely efficient in tasks like cooking, preparing ingredients, discovering the best quality of foodstuff in their local markets and bargaining these down to reasonable prices.

They have worked tirelessly and in tandem to prepare and package a range of spices on our list, bringing every quality and all the efficiency they've developed in their lifetimes as homemakers to the table.

We bring you the best from our Dharti, through their painstaking but ever smiling effort!

Meet Champaben.

These are the sincere stories behind the sincere women behind Dharti. All straight from the heart, all true and all that made Dharti true.

She came to this Dharti as a young bride who went onto to rear and raise a lovely and large family that farms for a living.

She has spent most of her life on the field, doing hard labour in every shade of weather and cheerily claims to have loved every bit of it.

Nobody knows her Dharti like she does. She says she can feel the soil, speak to it, request it to yield generously and it speaks back to her, listens to her words, her voice, her prayers.

Everything that grows on that farmland is her friend. She can tell its moods, its best produce from its mediocre crop and she can do everything to ensure it gives her its best, always.

Champaben has overseen and supervised the processing of every product that went on our list, coming from and eventually becoming Dharti. She is the grandmother of this project that is an ode to our motherland. We seek her blessings and her guidance every day and we couldn't be more grateful for having these from the very beginning.

Meet Dakshaben.

These are the sincere stories behind the sincere women behind Dharti. All straight from the heart, all true and all that made Dharti true.

She is a cook by profession. Perhaps the designated village chef for she prepares meals for children attending the primary school, is usually everyone's first choice to prepare the feast at a village collective or event and puts together tiffins for those that have no time or resources to cook for themselves. Through her constant and earnest efforts with food, she has not only fed her family but also educated her children and supported her husband in having a healthy home.

If there was one woman on this Dharti whom anyone would think has a hundred busy hours in the day, it would certainly be Dakshaben. And yet, despite her manic schedule, she chose to sit down with her spices and make every shopping trip necessary to give back to her Dharti and herself, what she believes is well deserved by the women of this Dharti - empowerment, self-reliance, self-sufficiency and the ability to better. Her inclination to always readily serve her community only helped intensify her resolve to take on this commitment as well.

Years of experience with cooking delicious dishes ensures she delivers products that are prepared with so much attention and detail, they best represent the richness and purity of this Dharti. Dakshaben, we are in awe of the relentlessness of your work and schedule and then of course, the smile on your face as you do it all. This Dharti needs more smiles like yours; more women like you.
